The modalities of healing and yoga are a key source of inspiration for Shakti and inform her appreciation of the food as medicine philosophy. The ancient approach to food and nutrition as a way of healing is time-honoured in eastern and indigenous cultures. Shakti combines optimum food choices with healing practices to create a complete service for her clients, saying: “Food is medicine and we are what we eat, so let’s eat the most nutritionally dense and whole food possible, and live our lives with mindfulness and awareness.”

Once a dedicated ‘meat and potatoes girl’, Shakti was exposed to new food paradigms while studying healing arts in the USA. The result was a rapid personal healing process where she felt cleansed and experienced enhanced energy. “I have been on a path of personal wellness and optimal nutrition ever since. It is my passion – creating healthy food that energises clients, helps them gain more vitality and live their lives to the fullest.”

With a background in large scale event catering, Shakti’s portfolio encompasses the elite private kitchens of high profile and discerning clients throughout the Americas, Mediterranean and Australia. Her first class menus have been prepared in a variety of venues including private estates, luxury yachts and corporate kitchens.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Shakti’s Superfood Blend®
  • 1/2 cup dates (pitted)
  • 1 cup of almonds (raw and activated)
  • 1/2 cup apricots (unsulphured)
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1/3 cup of sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup coconut (desiccated)
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 3 tablespoons macadamia or brazil nut butter
  • 1/2 cup of maple syrup, rice syrup or honey
  • 1/4 cup goji berries (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

Method

  1. Soak dates for 10 minutes in enough hot water to cover.
  2. Grind nuts, apricot, seeds and coconut in your Vitamix to a coarse flour consistency.
  3. Add strained dates and blend mixture, briefly until mixed through
  4. Add coconut oil, nut butter and maple syrup, and continue to blend until all ingredients are well mixed.
  5. Add Shakti’s Superfood Blend® and blend until combined.
  6. Shape into balls.
  7. Roll balls and coat in either hemp seeds, coconut or sesame seeds or leave them plain
  8. OR blitz up some coconut with fresh mint and use that as your dusting/coating magic.
  9. Refrigerate until ready to eat.
