DIY Beauty Queen – Part Two

I was so inspired by Ameka and her recent post – DIY Beauty Queen that I decided to try my hand at a few DIY beauty products. With so many different products on the market these days the beauty scene can get confusing, overwhelming, frustrating and expensive! Not to mention a little soul destroying… A lot of products make a lot of claims. For example:

Chemical Free
Not tested on animals
Youthful Glow
Organic
Look 20 years younger

As far as I know… many people do fall for clever marketing gimmicks and you know what? Some of these products are amazing and do help however, I personally think it comes down to exercise, a healthy diet, good genes, keeping hydrated and most of all…

Being stress free and happy!

Let’s face it though… we all need a little help here and there and nothing beats coming home, whipping on some comfy clothes and smothering our faces in masks and super potions. It’s also fun to get your partner involved and play beautician. To all the guys out there… you know you love it when your partner attacks you with the chocolate smelling face mask and you do love the way your skin feels afterwards. As well as keeping hydrated, here are a few recipes and tips to nourish from the inside out.

pineapple smoothie This smoothie combines hydrating coconut water with skin-loving pineapple and turmeric for a healthy morning wake-up. The ginger is a great kick starter for the morning and is soothing on the stomach.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 inch fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric

Method

  1. Put all the ingredients into the Vitamix 2L container in the order listed and secure the lid.
  2. Select Variable 1. Turn the machine on and quickly increase the speed to 10, then override to High.
  3. Use the tamper to effectively press the ingredients into the blades whilst processing.
  4. Blend for 45-60 seconds or until smooth and slightly warm.
  5. Stop the machine and serve

BATH SALTS

**Not for ingesting**

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coarse sea salt
  • 1 cup Epsom salt
  • 1 Tbsp pure vanilla paste

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir well.
  2. Transfer to a jar with tight-fitting lid.
  3. Keep in cool, dark place.
  4. Will last for several months.
  5. Add 1/2 cup of the bath salts to a warm bath.

How do I use this as a body scrub?

Try processing the salt granules down to a fine powder and mix with some honey and coconut oil until it is easy enough to spread and exfoliate your body. I love using raw honey as it has fantastic antibacterial properties. I wouldn’t recommend using this on your face. The great thing about this recipe is you can customise it and make it your own. Add whatever essential oils that you love or keep it simple if you are very sensitive to strong smells.

Remember to scrub gently! It’s skin not enamel paint!

How should I get rid of Make – Up?

This is very simple!

Coconut Oil fixed

**Not for ingesting**

1) Simply wash as much make-up off as you can with water or your chosen face wash and then apply some coconut oil onto a cotton pad and wipe your make up off until it’s all gone. Be gentle around the eye area though. Try not to rub vigorously as it is gentle skin.

Don’t like coconut oil? Any oil would work fine. Try some Olive Oil, Macadamia Nut oil or Almond oil.

honey and bicard face washFIXED AGAIN

**Not for ingesting**

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp bicarbonate soda
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 1 Tbsp honey

I like to use Manuka Honey as it has many fantastic anti-bacterial properties.

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients well and rub all over your face like you would any face wash.
  2. Be careful around the gentle eye area.

If any ingredient doesn’t work with your skin then try and sub it for another natural product. We’re all different and our skin certainly follows this rule. It all starts from the inside though so maintain a healthy diet and shine from the inside out!

For any serious skin conditions It is always a good idea to consult a medical professional.

Now it’s time to whip up some face mask and…

Sit back & Relax!
