Featured Friend Interview: Dani Stevens – Fitness, Food & Style

Our October Featured Friend is a fit Mum of four, entrepreneur, fitness, food and style blogger, healthy lifestyle ambassador and motivator, meet the amazing Dani Stevens.

In 2012 Dani started writing a blog, Fitness Food & Style, to share her journey (she shed 30kg after having her 4 kids) and motivate and inspire others. This little blog was just a place where she showed what she’s eating, cooking, wearing, her before and after baby body pics, family adventures and what new things have inspired her.  For Dani, the idea of the blog was to perfect the right balance of a healthy, fit regime and lifestyle. It became so successful that she has built a following through social media of over 210,000 subscribers.

In 2014, Dani merged her Fitness Food & Style blog into the one stop shop for healthy lifestyle inspiration at DaniStevens.com. Her subscribers (#teamdani) grow rapidly each day as Dani continues to motivate and inspire with her infectious energy and ‘everywoman’ accessibility. Dani is living proof that a busy wife and mother can achieve a healthy and happy lifestyle.

Dani thank you so much for agreeing to be our Featured Friend for this month. Firstly, what does creating ‘a healthy mix for life’ mean to you?

Being able to prepare fresh, quick and easy meals are paramount. As a busy Mum of 4 kids under 9yo, my little ones want FAST FOOD now!  I find raw works best as all you do is wash, cut and eat!

What does your day on a plate look like and why do you eat the way you do?

My day kicks off with a Green “Superfood” Smoothie

Breakfast

Overnight oats soaked in coconut milk, dates, almonds and fresh berries

Snacks

Handful of almonds and a piece of fruit

Cheese and vegetable sticks with dip

Lunch

Tuna salad or wholemeal wrap

Dinner

Grilled chicken with haloumi cheese and steamed vegetables.

Eating healthy makes me feel energised. It keeps me satisfied and no longer crave for the sugary foods I used to eat. Also the green smoothies have really improved my skin. People don’t believe that I’m in my forties.Instagram promo 2Living a healthy life doesn’t just mean eating well … how do you keep your mind and body healthy?

Keeping my mind and body healthy means keeping organised. I need to make sure our meals are planned so there’s no panic attack at 5pm. Moving my body is also part of my daily regime. I am on auto pilot when it comes to moving my body daily, even if it’s walking around our 6km lake or playing “chasey”.

Keeping connected with like minded people motivates me and keeps my mind healthy. I love interacting with my online community daily.

Who is your health, wellness or fitness guru and why?

I have so many people that inspire me and make me apply their wellness values in my life. My ultimate foodie inspo is Jamie Oliver, and I can’t wait to cook with him one day. He is someone that has made a real impact in the world with eating fresh food. No matter what language you speak, food says it all!

What is your ONE Super Hero Food that you cannot live without?

It would have to be almonds! You can eat them raw, blend them into almond meal, make almond milk and so much more!!! I have a tub full of almonds in the fridge that keep fresh. I love them!

If you could share with the Raw Blend Family one piece of your wisdom what would it be?

Always make time to feed your body real food. I know we are so busy and grab the fast packaged foods, but setting some time at the beginning of your week, you can have your REAL FOOD “take away” everywhere you go!

We are lucky enough to have you share one of your favourite recipes with us, why do you love this recipe?

Our kids love the magic of the Vitamix blender!!! So nothing is more simple than the kids placing frozen bananas, dates and ice to make their favourite ice-cream. It’s done in 5 minutes! As I mentioned earlier, our kids love FRESH FOOD FAST!!

Ingredients

  • Walnuts
  • Fresh Medjool dates (soaked in water which gives the caramel taste)
  • Frozen bananas
  • Vanilla bean
  • Ice

That’s it! Simply amazing, delicious and ready in 5 minutes. The real trick to this amazing dessert is the frozen bananas, the walnuts just make it super creamy and the 3:1 ratio ice is where the magic happens.

Here they are helping me make it!
