Featured Friend Interview: Elizabeth Galleghan @ Eat Yourself Beautiful

Elizabeth Galleghan is a qualified Beauty Therapist, Health Coach and Nutritionist who specialises in natural beauty treatments using fresh, organic food and we are thrilled to have her as our first Featured Friend for 2017.

Elizabeth has a passion for natural beauty and believes that the secrets to health and beauty can all be found in nature. She has merged her love of nutrition and beauty together by creating unique treatments by applying a variety of organic foods topically to the skin to improve her clients’ skin concerns.

Elizabeth believes that you shouldn’t put anything on your skin that isn’t safe enough to eat and has created her signature Superfood Facials that uphold this philosophy. The organic foods used in her Superfood Facials are concentrated with potent antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and fatty acids, which rejuvenate and nourish the skin. This luxurious and results-driven treatment awakens all of your senses and is guaranteed to make anyone’s skin glow.

She also specialises in eyebrow shaping, threading and body sugaring which is a form of hair removal that is 100% natural and the product is safe enough to eat.

She is an advocate for self-care, self-love and encourages all women to find natural ways to look and feel radiant. Elizabeth enjoys educating her clients about which foods to incorporate into their diet to achieve a beautiful complexion from the inside out and improve their overall wellbeing. She also enjoys teaching her clients how they can make their own skincare at home using ingredients that can be found in their kitchen.

Her mission is to inspire women to love themselves and embrace the power of food to enhance their health, happiness and authentic beauty and we are so lucky to have Elizabeth kick off our New Year!

Elizabeth, what does creating a ‘Healthy Mix for Life’ mean to you?

I believe that BALANCE is key to health and happiness. I live by the 80% healthy/20% indulgence rule and I feel that this is important so that you don’t feel deprived. I think that it’s important to ensure that all areas of your life are attended to and nurtured so that all aspects of our health (such as our spiritual, emotional, physical and mental health) are maintained.

With BALANCE being the key to happiness, how do you keep your taste buds happy? What does your day on a plate look like and why do you eat the way you do?

Each morning I start my day with a glass of warm water with fresh lemon juice to re-hydrate and alkalise my body.

Breakfast is usually a smoothie with chia seeds, protein powder (by ‘The Beauty Chef’), filtered water, 1 banana, ½ avocado and blueberries. I also have one or two boiled eggs after my smoothie or a handful of nuts.

Lunch is usually fish or chicken with baby spinach, black rice and sweet potato drizzled with loads of olive oil.

Afternoon snack is usually a few cups of herbal tea with some cacao chocolate or a piece of fruit.

Dinner is usually some kind of organic meat/chicken/fish with steamed vegetables. I’m a simple girl.

I try to stick to a predominantly wholefoods diet so that my body is getting the nutrients that it needs to be healthy. I also believe that beautiful skin starts with what we eat so I try to get as many antioxidants as I can eat day.

What is your ONE super hero food that you could NOT live without?

Cacao Chocolate! I just LOVE chocolate and life is just too short not to have it. I love the raw cacao chocolate by ‘Pana Chocolate’ because it is delicious and is packed with antioxidants. It’s great to nibble on in the afternoon when I hit that 3pm slump.

Living a healthy life doesn’t just mean eating well though, so how do you keep your mind and body healthy?

Over the years I have realised that the best ways for me to feel my best and address all areas of my health include the following daily practices:

  • Wake up with a grateful heart and count my blessings
  • Eating an organic wholefoods diet most of the time
  • Drinking plenty of water
  • Getting out in the sunshine for at least 30 minutes
  • Exercising for at least 30 minutes a day
  • Taking time out to pray or mediate
  • Practising self-care rituals and being kind to myself
  • Spending time with family and friends
  • Give hugs
  • Choosing a career that I LOVE!
  • Getting 8 hours of sleep every night
  • Using natural beauty products on my skin
  • Stay positive and always see the glass as half full

That sounds like a great guide to living your daily life. Is there anyone in particular that inspires you to live life the way you do?

I have always been inspired by Miranda Kerr. She encompasses natural beauty and is an advocate for being healthy, eating well, staying active and using natural beauty products. I also love that she has a beautiful organic skincare range and two books that encourage women to love themselves and to be happy in their own skin.

Okay, final question … If you could share with your Raw Blend family one piece of your wisdom, what would it be?

Be kind to yourself. Care for yourself the way you would care for someone you love. Self-care is so important because “you can’t pour from an empty vessel”. Take time to do nice things for yourself and recharge your battery. The more you love, care and nurture yourself, the better you will feel and the more you will be able to give of yourself to others. Love the skin you’re in and don’t compare yourself to others. Embrace your authentic beauty. All butterflies look different but they are all beautiful in their own way. Women are the same.

That is such a beautiful way to put it! Wise words indeed. So we know that your thing is beauty and we are lucky enough to have you share one of your favourite face mask recipes with us, why do you love this recipe?

I love this recipe because it is simple, effective and most importantly…. Yummy! Most women are very busy these days and many don’t have time for a fancy skincare regime so this recipe only has a few ingredients that you can find in your kitchen and they will make your skin glow.

The yoghurt contains lactic acid, which softens and gently exfoliates the skin. It also contains zinc, which helps to heal blemishes. The cacao powder is high in antioxidants, which protects and rejuvenates the skin. The honey has a high concentration of vitamins and minerals, is anti-inflammatory, improves wound healing, has potent antibacterial properties and moisturises the skin.
