Goodness Gracious Berry

Today’s recipe is inspired by Blueberries!

This smoothie recipe is sure to please and a great way to reap the benefits of tofu without sitting down to the typical deep fried tofu… Certainly a healthier option.

Tofu is a good source of protein and contains all eight essential amino acids. It’s perfect for vegans and vegetarians on the hunt for a different source of protein. It’s also a great source of iron, calcium, manganese, selenium and phosphorus, copper, zinc, magnesium and vitamin B1.

Soya protein from which tofu is derived is believed to help lower levels of LDL which is the bad cholesterol. It also contains isoflavones which are a group of chemical found in plant foods. Their structure is very similar to the female hormone oestrogen and mimics the action it plays in the body. Women also like to up their intake of tofu during menopause thanks to tofu’s phytoestrogen content which is known to help relieve menopausal symptoms.

When using protein powder remember that different types can drastically alter the overall taste. This recipe would work best with a vanilla flavoured or natural flavoured protein powder.
