Vegan Cooking tips and techniques.

Just a few that I have noticed and picked up along the way. These are a great start but the list is endless! Why not give them a go!

Get a proper knife set!

You’ll be chopping a lot of veggies and herbs so why not invest in a proper knife set to avoid the dangers of working with knives as blunt as Joan Rivers’ reviews. RIP Joan…

Quality Olive Oil

Trust me… you will notice to difference. Make sure you get one that is actual olive oil. There are so many dodgy brands out there that use cheap oils in disguise to help them make the big bucks!

It’s a very unregulated industry making it a very slippery trade… Pardon the pun! Here are some brands that you may know and can trust:

  1. Cobram Estate Olive Oil
  2. Corto Olive Oil
  3. Olive Grove Olive Oil Company

Update your Spice Rack

Those who know me well know that I cannot live without the following:

  • cinnamon
  • cumin powder
  • coriander powder
  • turmeric

A simple pasta sauce includes these spices with fresh cherry tomatoes and onion and garlic and olive oil and parsley. Feel free to add some chili if you like a little culinary kick! Pour this over pasta and it’s delicious!

Make your own milk replacement

Almond milk, coconut milk or rice milk… the possibilities are endless.

Egg Substitute

Scrambed eggs – Make a tofu scramble instead! Super easy and you can season it with veggies and tomatoes etc.

Eggs in baking – Use a flax egg! My new favourite thing 🙂
1 flax egg (1 Tbsp ground flax + 2.5 Tbsp water or other liquid ) = 1 egg

Omelets – Chickpea flour is great for a vegan omelet

  • 1 cup chickpea flour (garbanzo flour)
  • 2 Tbsp. nutritional yeast
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp dry mustard
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened non dairy milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Olive oil for cooking

Butter Substitute

I love Nuttelex “buttery” as a substitute. Never think Margarine is a good idea… Never!

Gelatin Substitute

Simply use Agar Agar flakes or powder instead. It will thicken as it’s heated.

Make your own Vegan Mayo! It’s delicious and super easy!
