Meet Ivy Carnegie, Co-Founder & President of Aura Avenue, editor of Pretty Nourished and co-founder of drinkbar juicery. You may already recognise Ivy from her passionate and inspiring Instagram page. An all-things-organic lover, Ivy has a huge passion for combining self-love healing with a nourishment focus. Several years in the entertainment industry opened her eyes to the need for focus on nutrition and less on DIET.
Ivy’s passion to educate and influence all generations on natural remedies was sparked by her own health taking a toll in 2004 with a complex diagnosis, little answers and a handful of medication. This really opened her eyes to the need for more awareness of nutrition-based treatment and less on pharmaceutical drugs.
Loving all things green and increasing awareness of processed food, her and her husband opened a juice bar in Orange County, California in 2012, with a focus on organic juice cleansing and holistic healing derived snacks.
Society has put so much pressure on our women and their figures; Ivy feels we should be focusing on getting the best nutrition possible, and fuelling our lives from the inside out. All roads lead back to self-love, and without loving on our bodies through nutrition first, what do we have? “For without love we are bankrupt!”
We are so grateful that Ivy could take some time out of her busy schedule and chat with Raw Blend family.
Ivy, you have so much going on in your life on a daily basis. How do you create ‘A Healthy Mix for Life’ and what does it mean to you?
Balance, and all roads leading to vibrancy. Whether its work or play, it needs to make you feel incredible. I am not sure where we lost our footing and became disconnected as a society. A Healthy Mix for Life means all ingredients leading to vibrancy.
Living a healthy life doesn’t just mean eating well, how do you keep your mind and body healthy?
My day is well balanced. It starts with a cup of tea, a book, my bible and an alarm before the sun comes up. I read and start my day slow and then head to the gym. I love starting my day that way, it ignites my body and my soul.
I keep my mind and body healthy by reading and keeping my mind fresh. I do my best to stay off of electronics as I’ve found I do not feel energized when I do that. Ironically reading gives me energy. I am always learning, either about health and nutrition or life application. Growth in all aspects makes me feel satisfied.
Who is your health, wellness or fitness guru and why?
Dr. Robert Morse. He has healed so many patients it is incredible. He is backed by chemistry but focuses on simplicity. His ways make so much sense to me, and they are so simple. We make things so complicated.
We know you are super passionate about food that nourishes us so what would be ONE Super Hero Food that you could NOT live without?
Bananas. They come in their own package, they taste incredible, I know exactly how my digestion will response and they give me energy.
If you could share with the Raw Blend Family one piece of your wisdom what would it be?
To listen to your body. We have lost our touch in that. We often can’t hear our own intuition. The world is noisy, listen to what your own body has to say, it is never wrong.
We are lucky enough to have you share one of your favourite recipes with us, why do you love this recipe?
I love this recipe because it is three ingredients and literally taste so “bad for you”. It is so yummy and fuels me while also satisfying a sweet craving. Its so good.
Digestion friendly! These babies are a go to snack, great for breakfast or when you are craving those sweets. You can roll them into balls and store in a mason jar in the fridge, or you can flatten, and cut to be bars wrapped in wax paper. These are less expensive than your average “bar” and are free of those icky sweeteners and preservatives. Be sure to refrigerate these and make plenty, as they go fast.
Ingredients
- Dates (medjool) if they are not soft, pre-soak for about ten minutes
- Gluten Free Oats
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
Method
1. Blend 1 cup of oats in vitamix or food processor. Make sure your blender is completely dry. Blend until flour like consistency.
2. Add 1/8 cup of cocoa powder to your oat flour. Pulse. *Add more to your liking
3. Empty flour from blender into bowl. Set aside.
4. Blend 1 cup or 5-6 pitted dates. Pulse until just near jam consistency.
5. Add in cocoa oat flour slowly as you pulse. The now “dough” like texture will start to roll in the blender. Scoop any stickiness off the sides if needed. Pulse slowly one more time.
6. Scoop out ingredients into a bowl. Roll into 1 inch balls.
