It’s personal sharing time. I feel like after a few years of getting to know each other on this little blog of ours that we are on a good sharing basis. So here it goes … for the past 18 months, maybe even longer? I have been battling with horrific skin congestion and nasty breakouts – gross!
It’s not exactly what I would call normal for someone edging ever so closely to her 30’s and it’s not really ideal in my line of work.
It was really getting me down because it felt like no matter what I tried I just couldn’t seem to heal my skin. I had changed my old ways long ago and I was enjoying a good healthy diet, I was exercising frequently, I cleaned my skin morning and night, (well … most nights). I was cautious of what beauty products I was using on my face and I was having regular beauty treatments to promote skin rejuvenation and regeneration. It still wasn’t helping!
My skin got so bad that I actually went to the doctor and asked for antibiotics to help clear my skin! Eeep, don’t judge … I just felt so hopeless and I didn’t know what else to do. It only made things worse.
Through keeping a diary and being strict with product and routine, a long process of elimination, along with a great advisor, I had narrowed my skin crisis down to my gut health. It sounds a lot grosser than it is, I promise.
You see my digestive system was sluggish, almost non-existent from the years of un-healthy habits I had put my body through. Even though I had changed my old ways some years ago, my body hadn’t recovered and it was crying out for help. I should have listened to the signs long before, but with a busy schedule and a desire to do EVERYTHING all at once – I had ignored the light tap on the door for my wake-up call. I ignored it until it was a loud bang. Or at least until it became a large community of adult acne that had decided to call my face home.
So I started healing my skin from the inside out. It was a long road of good natural and nourishing cleanses, a good probiotic, a few other herbal supplements, good quality skin care, combined with a diet of foods that are designed to heal, cleanse and promote healthy digestive systems and in turn healthy skin. My skin is NOW well and truly on the mend. I mean, It’s not worthy of a skincare campaign but it’s definitely looking better and I am feeling SO much better.
You see, a lot of our overall health stems from the health of our tummy’s and our digestive systems. Our immune systems, energy levels and our skin can all be greatly effected by what is happening on the inside. (Side note: Did you know that 70% of our immunity comes from our bellys!?)
With matters of the skin in mind today I thought I would share with you one of my go to smoothies for a healthy, clean and clear glow from the Inside out! It is packed with goodness like pears which are rich in fibre to help sweep those toxins away and they are gentle on our digestive systems.
This glowing goodness also contains pineapple which is particularly great as a natural anti-inflammatory as well as being rich in Vitamin C which helps our immune systems as well as helping with the production of collagen which we know helps rejuvenate our skin! It also has mint which is gentle and relieving on our tired tummy’s and the coconut water and flesh is the perfect hydrator along with good, natural, healthy fats … so what are you waiting for. Get your glow on from the inside out!
